MARLIN — Police arrested a man Thursday morning who reportedly led authorities on a high-speed chase a week ago and dumped his vehicle into Upper Goose Lake.

Acting on a tip, a deputy with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office reportedly spotted John J. Monday, 29, of Othello, at a residence in the 21,000 block of Road W Northeast near Marlin, according to the sheriff’s office. The deputy contacted the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team (TRT) and a K-9 unit with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, who responded to the scene.

Deputies attempted to get Monday to come out of the house, but were unsuccessful. The Adams County K-9 unit reportedly found Monday hiding behind the residence and subdued him. He was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for treatment and when released will be booked into the Grant County Jail on an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

Monday was reportedly wanted in connection with a burglary near Royal City on Jan. 12. Monday reportedly fled the scene of the burglary and led police on a high-speed chase into the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge. Police blocked all of the exits to the refuge and a deputy later spotted some debris floating on Upper Goose Lake. On Jan. 13, with the help of an underwater robot from Franklin County, divers recovered the suspect vehicle, a Volkswagen Passat, and discovered it was unoccupied.

The sheriff’s office believes Monday dumped the Passat into Upper Goose Lake and are still investigating the alleged Royal City burglary.

Deputies and U.S. Marshals had been following tips that Monday was seen in the Othello and Grant County area, stated the sheriff’s office.
