ROYAL CITY — At its meeting of Jan. 5, the Royal City Council voted to spend $10,000 in support of the Royal Golf Course this year.

According to City Finance Director Greg Pike, this is a one-time, budgeted transfer to assist the golf course in 2016. He doesn’t know how the money will be spent.

Sitting three miles from town, as it is, the Royal Golf Course doesn’t appear to be part of Royal City. But the land was gifted to the city in the early 1980s by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Built by farmers, the RGC is owned by the city.

In other business on Jan. 5, Mayor Kent Andersen was authorized to sign a lease information affidavit for the Royal Golf Course Association as part of its application to the Washington State Liquor Control Board for a liquor license.

Andersen was authorized also to sign a contract with Consolidated Disposal Services to amend the pricing as permitted by the original contract.

Officer Jose Rivera, a member of the Royal City Police Department for five years, submitted his resignation. He has accepted an offer of employment with the Grant County Sheriff’s office.

According to Pike, Police Chief Darin Smith has hired a new officer who lives in the Royal City area. That officer will not be on the job for half a year. He will attend the next police academy class, which begins February 16.

Pike said Smith and his lone officer, Rey Rodriguez, will work 12-hour shifts and draw overtime.

A vote was to authorize final payment to Central Washington Asphalt if CWA will provide written notice of its intent to fix problem areas on Acacia Street.
