PONDERAY — A new park in Ponderay combines reading, walking and the great outdoors. A reading park opened in McNearney Park Jan. 18.

"There's two goals here, one, to get people outside, and two, to get people reading," said Suzanne Tugman, community outreach for Kaniksu Land Trust.

Children and their families can walk through little pathways in McNearney Park behind the Panhandle Animal Shelter and take part in a story placed at stopping locations around the trail. There is an activity for the children to do at each stopping point at the bottom of the story page that helps the children turn the story into an interactive experience, said Tugman. It is a great way to spend time with family and friends in the outdoors, she added.
