Glacier never recovered from a slow start as Helena Capital pulled out a 54-50 Western AA girls basketball victory Friday night at Glacier High School.

Capital outscored Glacier 13-3 in the second quarter to take a 30-17 halftime lead.

“Give credit to Capital, they came out in the first half and we didn’t play very well for 16 minutes,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said.

“We came back (in the second half). I’m proud of the girls for that. They battled, got within one with two minutes to go. Capital made some free throws and Jaden Pallister hit a big 3 with a minute to go.”

Glacier (9-4 overall, 3-2 league) wound up four-points short.

Pallister led Capital offensively with 16 points. Mary Bruggman added 12.

Hailee Bennett did the bulk of Glacier’s scoring with 23 points. Taylor Salonen chipped in 13.

“There it is,” Salonen said.

“There’s the game right there.”
