Mattawa 2-year-old loses life in accident

MATTAWA — A 2-year-old Mattawa girl died Thursday when the car in which she was riding went out of control and crashed about three miles north of the Vernita Bridge on Highway 243.

The Jan. 29 crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. According to the Washington State Patrol, neither alcohol nor drugs was a factor.

The the deceased child was not properly restrained within the vehicle.

Omar Ledesma-Adame, 17 of Mattawa was the driver of a blue 2005 Chrysler Pacifica southbound on 243. He lost control, and the car veered to the right off of 243 and rolled.

It is was not known if the driver was using a seat belt. He was hurt, and he was taken by ambulance to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland..

The vehicle was totaled and was impounded by Davis Towing of Schawana.

Deceased at the scene of the accident was an unnamed child from Mattawa. She was a 2-year-old. She was not properly restrained, the Washington State Patrol reported.

A second passenger was Rosa María G. Adame, 50, of Mattawa. It was unknown if she was wearing a seatbelt. She was injured but did not require transport.

The WSP investigation was incomplete as of Monday morning. All the WSP could report at that time was that the vehicle left the roadway to the right, rolled and came to rest on its top.

No cause had been determined.
