Royal Knights take 7 titles sends 18 to regionals, Wahluke qualifies 10

ROYAL CITY — Royal High School put on a wrestling show at the SCAC East District Tournament here last Saturday, winning seven individual titles and qualifying 16 grapplers for regionals.
Wahluke had a good day at districts, wrestling in four finals and advancing eight boys to regionals. The Warriors finished fourth in the team race with 144 points. Royal won with 306.5. Ki-Be scored 197 for third.
The SCAC regional tournament will be held this Saturday at Highland High School. The top four from the West and East divisions will square off at each weight to decide four tickets to state.
West champion Granger, ranked seventh in the state, will be favored, but Royal could sneak up on the Spartans.
Heading into regionals, Royal is the SCAC East League champion and the SCAC East District champion. Coach Randy Miller was named SCAC East coach of the year.
The parade of Royal champions started at 120 pounds. State tournament veteran Kiki Chabolla won the final with pin of Juan Toscano of Wahluke in 3:34. Toscano made the final by stopping Loren McGhan of Ki-Be in 50 seconds.
That win kicked off a run of five straight titles. Abraham Medina was next with a 7-1 triumph over Flavio Sandoval of Ki-Be at 126 pounds.
At 132 it was Kevin Pastor of Royal winning the title over Daniel Bonilla of Royal, 11-5. Bonilla got to the final by pining Erick Valdovinos of Wahluke in 3:20.
Addin Felker won the next Royal title at 138 pounds. He topped Adrian Toscano of Wahluke, 7-2. Toscano made it to the final with a pin of Ruben Hernandez of Royal.
At 145, Regan Callahan of Royal was the title winner. He took a 10-9 victory over Cristian Garcia of Wahluke. Garcia qualified for the final with a 12-9 over Antonio Gonzalez of Royal.
Royal’s next title came from Darrin Miller at 170 pounds. Miller won his semifinal with a 47-second pin Owen Hokanson of Connell and a pin in 4:40 of Ki-Be’s Daniel Haller.
There was one more crow for Royal at 195. Jose Jimenez of the Knights won the finale over Zac Worcott of Burbank with a pin in 1:14.
