PONDERAY — Sandpoint Middle School students may get more elective class time under a new five-by-five block schedule proposed by SMS staff.

SMS Principal Casey McLaughlin presented the schedule change to the board to keep them informed and said it will help students by providing a more well-rounded education.

Under LPOSD policy, SMS staff must approve of the schedule change, as well as Superintendent Shawn Woodward, and the school board of trustees will make the deciding vote.

"If you're going to do a major schedule change, two-thirds of the staff would have to approve that," said Dr. Becky Meyer, assistant superintendent. "This was just kind of a heads up we are talking more about this."
