Chiefs edged by Everett

SPOKANE — Graham Millar’s rebound goal early in the third period proved to be the difference as the Everett Silvertips beat the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 in Western Hockey League play Sunday night before 4,860 at Spokane Arena.

Graham’s goal gave Everett a 3-1 lead. Markson Bechtold scored with 1:11 left with the Chiefs having an extra skater, but Spokane was unable to tally the equalizer.

Dominic Zwerger of Spokane scored on a wraparound 6 minutes into the game to tie the score at 1. It was Zwerger’s team-leading 23rd goal of the season.

Brycen Martin’s power play goal off a Chiefs’ defender gave Everett a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Spokane (27-22-4-3, 61 points) is now nine points back of first-place Everett in the U.S. Division, and four points behind Seattle.

Spokane returns to action Friday vs. Seattle in Kent, Wash.
