The Whitefish School Board voted last week to extend superintendent Heather Davis Schmidt’s contract for another two years.

The new contract begins July 1, 2016 and goes through June 30, 2018.

Davis Schmidt is set to receive an annual salary of $123,600, a 3 percent pay bump that correlates to the most recent staff increase.

The contract committee members state that the one-year extension strikes a balance between providing Davis Schmidt job security and preserving district flexibility.

Davis Schmidt joined the district in 2015 after Kate Orozco resigned. She previously served as executive regional director at Missoula County Public Schools.

Her initial contract in Whitefish was set to expire June 30, 2017.
