Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 8 years, 11 months AGO
Barbara Jean Hughes, 90, of Great Falls, “went to join her beloved husband, Richard ‘Dick’ Hughes,” on Valentine’s Day 2016. This brought their love to a complete circle as she proposed to him on Valentine’s Day in 1952, a leap year. They wed June 19, 1952.
Barbara was born Oct. 28, 1925, to Lewis Arthur and Minnie Eneboe. She went to grade school in both Butte and Great Falls. She graduated from Great Falls High in 1943, and then from Great Falls Commercial College.
She worked as a medical transcriptionist at many local institutions including Great Falls Clinic, Montana Deaconess Hospital, Dr. George Shemm and Great Falls Orthopedic Association. She was a charter member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary, active in PTA, Boy Scouts, Jayceens, held several offices for Chapter AR of PEO, and served on several boards of First Congregational Church where she and her husband also taught Sunday school. She was proud that with the baptism of her great-grandchildren, her family represents six generations of membership.
In her younger years Barbara loved to water-ski (her first love), swim, cross country ski and travel. She also loved to knit, crochet, play bridge with friends, do crossword puzzles, read and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed many beautiful summer days at their summer home on Swan Lake.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Patti and Randy Fisher of Great Falls; daughter-in-law Sharyn Hughes of Great Falls; son Stephen and Stacy Hughes of Kalispell; and son Robert and Dona Hughes of Great Falls; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her favorite, loving dog, Sadie, and many great friends.
Her parents Art and Minnie Eneboe, her husband Richard Hughes, and her son Ronald Hughes preceded her in death.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in the First Congregational Church, 2900 9th Ave. S., Great Falls.
