THOMPSON FALLS – The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks came just short of the district tournament, Tuesday, ending their season with a loss in a play in game against Troy, 27-38.

“The loser of [the game] did not make it into the tournament,” said Head Coach Doree Thilmony.

The coach recalled the girls came out ‘a little flat’ during the first half, entering halftime down by nine points. The third quarter was where things took a bad turn as the Troy defenders kept the Thompson Falls team away from the basket for a scoreless quarter. However, in the final quarter, the Lady Hawks came out strong and made good progress on recovering.

“If these girls put four quarters of basketball together like they can play, we’d be in for any team for sure,” Thilmony said. “We just fell short that night.”

The coach was very appreciative of the team’s efforts throughout the season. With eight girls on the team, it was hard at times; the girls put lots of effort into the team, though, and the coach said they played their hearts out and usually got approximately 30 minutes of play time each game.

“Couldn’t ask for more from them,” she said.

With the season now over, Thilmony felt next year’s team would have big shoes to fill. The seniors this year were great players who were a delight for her to coach as their energy, drive and personalities added to the team’s spirit and ability. The coach is looking forward to next year’s team, though, and said there are some good eighth graders coming up as well as good kids in junior varsity.
