Tuesday, February 23, local churches opened their doors for worship only to discover they had a crime scene.  Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Ann’s Catholic Church were two that were vandalized. The person of interest walked into the Baptist Church but was not able to vandalize it because church members were already present.

Members of St. Ann’s Catholic Church had opened up the church at 9 a.m., and it was unharmed. When parishioners came at noon for daily mass they saw the destruction. The perpetrator had thrown butter on the ceiling of the alter, the floors and ash was spread on the walls depicting satanic symbols. Wax was dripped from the candles onto the floors, along with candles being defaced. The cross on the tabernacle was also stolen. Utmost disturbing was the statue of the Virgin Mary, eyes crossed out.    

The Trinity Lutheran Church had their cross picked up and turned upside down, and then cut. Turning the cross upside down in Satanism is an act of mockery and a way to dishonor Christ and his death. Also there were cuts on a handmade calligraphy bible verse. 

Currently, Bonners Ferry Police Department is actively investigating these daylight vandalisms. The confident person of interest is described as white, male, tall and slender wearing a blue baseball cap. If anyone has anything pertaining to this investigation, please contact the BFPD at 267-2412.
