BONNERS FERRY — Concerned Citizens of North Idaho and the Boundary County Human Rights Task Force are hosting a gathering Jan. 9 to express compassion and support for those in need regardless of race, creed or nationality.

The event begins at noon Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Georgia Mae Plaza in downtown Bonners Ferry.

The event features local speakers and musicians Barb Robertson and Travis Billingsley. Information about Concerned Citizens of North Idaho and the task force will be available and attendees are encouraged to participate in upcoming events and cosign a letter of concern.

The gathering will conclude with a “Choose Compassion” march across the bridge. The theme for the gathering is “The New Colossus,” a sonnet by American poet Emma Lazarus. The poem, which begins with the famous passage, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses,” was engraved on a plaque at the Statue of Liberty in 1903.
