The Lookout Pass Ski Area free snow sports school will begin for skiers and snowboarders Jan. 9 and will continue every Saturday until March 12.

The ski school has room for 500 students, but registration is encouraged as soon as possible to reserve a spot, said Lookout Pass Ski Area director of marketing Jason Bergman.

Registration will remain open until three weeks after the ski school begins and is open for skiers age 6-17 or snowboarders age 7-17.

Classes for beginners will be held from 10-11 a.m. and intermediate level skiers and boarders will take the slopes from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Check-in is inside the main lodge at a free ski school table and participants will be directed where to go from there. Equipment and lift tickets are not included, but students may rent equipment at Lookout Pass, and lift tickets are not needed for the school portion of the ski day.

Free bus service is available in the Silver Valley for ski school students. Pickup times at respective locations include Pinehurst Elementary School at 8 a.m., Lookout Ski Shop in Kellogg at 8:15 a.m., Stein’s Family Foods in Osburn at 8:25 a.m., Silverton Post Office at 8:30 a.m., Harvest Foods in Wallace at 8:45 a.m., and the Mullan Pavilion at 9 a.m.

Bus service from Coeur d'Alene or Hayden costs $12, and pickup time is 8:05 a.m. at the Ski Shack, 9437 Government Way, and 8:25 a.m. at Tri-State Outfitters at 6275 N. Sunshine St.

Free bus service is also offered in Montana at Superior High School at 8:30 a.m., St. Regis High School at 8:45 a.m., and Silver Dollar Express at 8:55 a.m.
