Big Bend blow out alumni in final Floch game

MOSES LAKE — Head coach Mark Poth received a strong showing from Ryker Pierce, Mogga Lado, Keshawn Liggins, Leo Behrend and Riley Bruneel.
The quintet combined for 88 points and the Runnin’ Vikes routed the BBCC Alumni, 116-81.
It was the final Ryan Floch memorial game.
“Things run their course, and the family thinks it is time,” Big Bend athletic director Preston Wilks previously told the Columbia Basin Herald.
The game was organized after Ryan and Drew Floch, along with their grandfather and cousin, died in a fishing accident on the Pacific Ocean in 2001.
Ryan Floch played basketball for Big Bend from 1999 to 2001. During each Floch game, Poth displayed a No. 40 jersey on the seat next to him as a sign of remembrance.
In the first half, Big Bend shot a torrid 60 percent from the field and sprinted out to a 53-29 lead at the break. After struggling to score in the opening 20 minutes, the BBCC Alumni found their legs in the second half, shooting 43.6 percent and scoring 52 points. However, the Runnin’ Vikes countered with a 63-point second half.
Pierce led all scorers with 27 points. Connor Meyerhoeffer, Big Bend’s point guard, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds with seven points.
Liggins and Lado added 16 points each. Behrend added 15 points and Bruneel scored 14.

Big Bend women drop alumni game
MOSES LAKE — If Wilks, Big Bend’s head coach, could have any former player return to torch his team in an alumni game he would probably choose Liz Larrew.
Larrew wrapped up her sophomore season for the Vikings last year after being diagnosed with cancer. She showed her for she had come during Saturday’s game.
Larrew scored a game-high 30 points as BBCC Alumni upset the Vikings, 78-74. Also, Larrew added five steals and four rebounds to her gaudy scoring total.
Double-digit scoring from Mackenize Windley, Max Shelley and Deanna Manning wasn’t enough for Big Bend. Windley scored a team-high 20 points with nine rebounds. Manning turned in a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds. Shelley scored 16 points, but only made six of 20 shots.
Big Bend hosts Yakima Valley Jan. 9 to start region play.
