COEUR d'ALENE — Winning Coeur d'Alene City Council candidate Dan English is scheduled to be sworn in at tonight's council meeting.

Incumbents Dan Gookin and Ron Edinger also will be sworn, but for new terms. The city council meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library community room.

"I'm ready to dive in," English said Monday. "I'm anxious for that."

English met with city staff members and completed a city council training with the Association of Idaho Cities since the election two months ago when he beat incumbent Steve Adams and third candidate Bruce MacNeil.

English said he has also been doing a lot of "reading and homework" to get up to speed and prepared.

"I certainly don't go into it thinking I have all the answers," English said.

He said he will be keeping an open mind on each issue that comes before the council.

"I'll be taking each thing on its own merit," English said.

A council president will be chosen following the swearing-in.

In Post Falls, incumbent Kerri Thoreson and Joe Malloy will be sworn in for new terms.

Winning candidate Lynn Borders, who had been serving on the city's planning and zoning commission, will be sworn in as a new city councilor. Borders defeated Barry Rubin in November.

"Just looking forward to moving up to the next step and moving forward on the city council," Borders said Monday.

Borders attended city council meetings the past three months and completed the training by the Association of Idaho Cities.

The Post Falls City Council meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

In Hayden, a new mayor and city councilman will be sworn in on Jan. 12 at City Hall, said Hayden City Clerk Vicki Rutherford.

Steve Griffitts will be the new mayor and Matt Roetter will be joining the city council. Roetter defeated incumbent Tim Timmins in November.

Incumbent Hayden Councilman Roger Saterfiel will be sworn in for a new term.
