SANDPOINT — Rowan Daniels was born with a small claim to fame: being the first baby born in 2016 in Bonner County.

Rowan, weighing 8 pounds, 6 ounces, joins his sister Evan, 2 1/2, born to parents Kaley and Tyler Daniels. He was born Jan. 1 at 12:06 a.m.

“Someone could have told me it was 6 a.m. and I would have believed them,” Kaley said.

Labor took about five hours, Kaley said, which is “short to average.” She arrived at the Pend Oreille Midwifery about 10:30 p.m., after spending the day thinking that labor was looming. The couple even kept “open” plans for New Year's celebrating, knowing she would be very pregnant or in labor.
