MOSES LAKE — Cesar Sandoval’s three-point play late in the fourth quarter put the stamp on Moses Lake’s nonleague game with Post Falls.

Sandoval’s hoop plus the harm extended Moses Lake’s lead to 21 points, extinguishing any comeback hopes the Trojans might have had in the back of their mind.

Three players scored in double figures and the Chiefs (3-0, 8-2) pulled away from the Trojans, 73-56.

Sandoval led all scorers with 28 points. Ricardo Gonzalez added 12 points and Zack Phillips chipped in 13 points with timely baskets. Phillips’ three-pointer in the third quarter gave Moses Lake its first double digit lead of the game, 43-33. Later in the game, Phillips coaxed in a runner that swelled the lead to 19 points.

Sandoval came out firing, scoring eight out of Moses Lake’s first 10 points. He finished with 11 points in the opening quarter.

Although Sandoval was matched up against 6 feet, 7 inch Jacob Pfennigs, the Post Falls sophomore couldn’t slow down Sandoval in the post. More, when Sandoval was double or sometimes triple teamed he found the open man, such as a cutting Ryan Karstetter in the second quarter.

Both teams were in a full court press for most of the game, with the Chiefs handling the pressure much more effectively than the Trojans.

Isaiah Thomas added nine points.

Ephrata 69, Othello 67

OTHELLO — The trend of close games continued for Ephrata on the road with Othello.

This time the Tigers were on the right end and secured a 69-67 win over the Huskies.

“We did a lot of good things down the stretch to keep the lead, but Othello’s a good team,” head coach Brandon Evenson said.

Ephrata (4-4, 6-4) nursed a five-point lead late before Othello made a three-pointer to draw within two points.

Collin Ahmann led the Tigers with 22 points. Trenton Cutforth turned in 16 points for the Huskies.

Quincy 42, Wapato 36

WAPATO — Wapato entered Tuesday’s game against Quincy averaging 86 points per game.

Quincy cut that average by more than half and upset previously undefeated Wapato 42-36. The win snapped Quincy’s (2-5, 3-6) four-game losing streak.

Warden 57, Soap Lake 24

WARDEN — Warden held Soap Lake to nine points in the second half and opened CW2B South play with a 57-24 win.

“We made some adjustments at halftime and I was really proud of our defensive effort overall,” head coach Wes Richins said.

At one point, Soap Lake held an 11-0 lead before Warden closed the first half on a 19-5 run.

JR Delgado scored a game-high 18 points and Tanner Skone added 10.
