WHITEFISH — Another member of the Class A state champion Whitefish Bulldogs will be continuing his gridiron career at the next level, as Brian FauntLeRoy has signed a national letter of intent at Carroll College.

A two-way star, FauntLeRoy, was named a first team all-state safety last month and has been selected to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game. The 6-foot senior was also versatile piece of the Whitefish offense, filling in at running back for the injured Chris Park in the state championship game after spending most of the season primarily as a wide receiver. In 2015, FauntLeRoy was picked as a first team all-conference safety, wide receiver and returner.

FauntLeRoy caught 40 passes for 532 yards during his senior season, hauling in eight touchdown passes. He scored twice more as a running back while compiling 319 yards on the ground, and returned both a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns.

FauntLeRoy is the second member of the Bulldogs to commit to play football in college next year, joining fellow wideout Jed Nagler, who is committed to the University of Montana. Whitefish quarterback Luke May will attend the University of Minnesota to throw javelin.

Carroll, a perennial power in the Frontier Conference, has won six NAIA national championships since 2002 but went just 4-6 last year.

Howe signs with Diggers

BUTTE — Flathead defensive lineman Cody Howe has signed a national letter of intent to play football next season at Montana Tech.

Howe, who was an all-conference and second-team all-state performer for the Braves his senior season, signs as a defensive lineman for the Orediggers, who are coming off a Frontier Conference championship season and a berth in the NAIA playoffs.

Howe, who is listed as 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, was among the team leaders in sacks and tackles for the Braves. He plans on majoring in civil engineering at Tech, where his brother, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Gage Marcum, also plays.
