MOSES LAKE — It’s simple math, really.

Three points at a time is greater than two.

Moses Lake’s inside attack, led by Cesar Sandoval, was countered by the three-point bombing of Sunnyside’s Trey Sanchez and Art Palacios. Sanchez and Palacios combined for 42 points and Sunnyside handed Moses Lake its first Columbia Basin Big Nine loss, 67-57.

Sandoval scored a game-high 28 points, but missed the front end of two 1-and-1 free throw trips in the fourth quarter when the Chiefs tried to rally.

Moses Lake (3-1, 8-4) held a narrow lead in the first half before Sanchez and Nate Maltos made back-to-back three-pointers to send Sunnyside into the locker rooms with a 30-25 lead.

The Grizzlies extended their lead to nine points after three quarters when Tye Cuello nestled in a fadeaway shot as time expired. It was the next quarter in a row that Sunnyside scored at the buzzer.

Moses Lake had opportunities to rally in the fourth quarter, however, couldn’t take advantage of turnovers or from the free throw line.

Zack Phillips and Ricardo Gonzalez scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Isaiah Thomas added four points. No other Chief entered the score-book.
