PLAINS – Firefighters from the Plains City Fire Department quickly extinguished a small kitchen fire on Stanton Street, in Plains, Saturday afternoon.

The call was initially called in as a structure fire in the kitchen, but was later revealed to be confined to the over. According to one call over the radio, the oven’s heating element had heated something to the point of ignition.

According to Jason Williams, chief of the Plains City Fire Department, there was no danger to the structure and they were able to quickly douse the fire.

One engine responded from Plains City with six firefighters one scene. Shortly after arriving, a call was sent out for Plains-Paradise Rural Fire District and Plains Ambulance to stand down.

The residents all evacuated safely and nobody needed medical treatment. As the firefighters cleared the scene, the residents and firefighters could be seen laughing together.
