ROYAL CITY — Kiki Chabolla took second place at 132 pounds to lead Royal High wrestlers at the Bavarian Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Leavenworth Saturday.
Royal finished in ninth place as a team with 70 points. Tonasket won the team title with 170 points.
With two of last year’s state placers on the shelf with injuries, Royal had only a six-man contingent at the Bavarian. Sophomore Eduardo Rodriguez has joined senior Darrin Miller on the injured list.
Also placing for Royal at Leavenworth were C.J. Quintero, Steven Toro and Addin Felker. Regan Callahan and Ruben Hernandez won matches but did not place.
Chabolla made it to the final with 14-5, 17-2 and 4-2 decisions. There he was subdued, 6-0, by a boy from Naches.
That Naches boy also ended Toro’s run at a crown, beating Toro, 6-4, in Toro’s fourth match. But Toro won two matches by pin, and that was good enough for fourth place.
Quintero started out winning, 4-0, at 170 pounds. He dropped into the consolation bracket with a 6-0 loss in his second match. Then he won three straight, beating a boy from Naches, 3-2, for third place.
Royal’s fourth placer was Addin Felker at 138 pounds. He won three matches by pin, lost one by pin, then fell, 3-2 to a boy from Naches to finish fourth.
Both of the Royal boys who did not place wrestled at 145. Reg Callahan pinned twice and was pinned twice. Ruben Hernandez won 14-12 and 5-3 but was pinned twice.
