Orest Ben Palaniuk, 76

Orest Ben Palaniuk, 76, passed on Jan. 19, 2016, after a long battle with cancer. Orest was born March 10, 1939, to Steve J. and Katherine (Basaraba) Palaniuk of Belfield, N.D.

He graduated from Belfield High, served in the U.S. Army, and later completed his B.A. at the University of Washington. Orest married Sharon (Morgan) Willey in Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1965. Orest was employed with The Boeing Company for 32 years, spending most of that time in the Seattle area. He retired to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 2004.

Orest is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry; daughter Laura (David) Thayer; stepsons Gary “Red” and Teny Willey; grandsons Matthew and Steven Thayer; granddaughters Brenda, Kayla and Alissa Willey. A son, Robert, preceded him in death. Orest is also survived by his brother, Sy Palaniuk; and sisters Rose Richey, Betty Cassidy and Teresa Holzer.

At Orest’s request, there will be only graveside services and interment at Washington State Veterans Cemetery Medical Lake, Wash. English Funeral Chapels has been entrusted with care of final arrangements. Our family sincerely thanks Hospice of North Idaho for their care and support.
