Prudence Ann 'Prudy' McGrath, 81
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 9 years AGO
Prudence Ann “Prudy” McGrath drifted back to Heaven on Jan. 18, 2016. Prudy spent her final days surrounded by her family and friends. She reminisced about her favorite memories, sang songs, shared some laughter and some tears, and expressed how lucky and blessed she was to have had such a wonderful life. A week before her passing, she celebrated an early birthday party with her husband Pat, all of her kids and 17 of her grandkids. The party was made complete with Irish music, a family sing along and live bagpipes!
Prudy was born on Feb. 12, 1934, in Menominee, Wis., to George and Eileen McCourt. She went to high school and college in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She graduated from Immaculate Heart High School in 1952, and received her teaching certificate from North Idaho College in 1954. She also taught first grade in Post Falls, Idaho.
Prudy married her lifelong sweetheart, James (Pat) McGrath on Aug. 17, 1957, in St. Thomas Cathedral in Coeur d’Alene. Although they lived several places during their married life, including The Dalles, Ore., upon retirement they returned to Coeur d’Alene — the place they first met and fell in love.
Along with being a wife for more than 58 years, and mother of six kids, Prudy was an active member in Christian Women, and the St. Thomas Ladies’ Auxiliary. She also volunteered with her church, local schools and as a poll worker during election time. Prudy was a kind, compassionate and jovial person. She deeply cared for others and went out of her way to put a smile on another’s face. She was a benevolent “Nana” to many who met her. She always looked for the bright side of a situation and tried to instill that ideal in others. She was truly a beautiful person both inside and out!
Her legacy continues through her children: Patricia (Trish) and husband Roger Rouleau; James (Jamie) McGrath; Margaret (Meg) and husband Priamo Paulino; Kathleen (Kathy) McGrath; Kerry and husband Kevin Erwin; and Bridget Brannan. Along with her 18 grandchildren: Brandon, Ryan and Andrew Young; Zori and Molly Rouleau; Dillon and Dalton McGrath; Patrick, Matthew, Christopher and Sadie Paulino; Sierra McGrath; Janey, Kasey and Levi Clemons; McKell Wilson, Elliott and Quinlan Brannan. One great-grandchild — Cadence Young; and six step grandkids. She will forever be in our hearts!
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. A reception will follow in the parish center.
English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, has been entrusted to handle final arrangements. Please visit Prudy’s online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.
