PLAINS – Recently, Sanders County Search and Rescue were dispatched to River Road East, in Plains, in search of a missing person.

According to the sheriff’s report, the subject, who could not be identified for confidentiality reasons, had been missing for an unusual amount of time; when someone went out to look for him, they found tracks going to the Clark Fork River, but not returning from it. Search and Rescue was quickly dispatched to search the area for tracks and patrol the river, hoping the worst had not happened.

According to Deputy Johnson, president of SCSR, they had to call in Ravalli County Search and Rescue’s K9 Unit to help search. Eventually, though, tracks were found and the missing man was located somewhere in the woods.

Johnson reported he had been missing for approximately 26 hours and was suffering mild hypothermia when found. The man had not wound up in the river, but had not made it home after reaching the edge.

The subject was taken to Clark Fork Valley Hospital by ambulance where he was treated and released.
