'Trying to outsmart the other team'

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint High School volleyball team has won 14 state titles.
The two Bulldog soccer teams have combined for a whopping 15, and that’s only since 2000, when Idaho started hosting a state tournament.
Titles are much tougher to come by in other sports, with the Bulldogs claiming just one state title in football (1997), boys track (2003) and baseball (2006).
There’s another state title in the history books from Sandpoint, although it’s far less known and you have to dig deep into the Idaho High School Activities Association handbook to find it. Led by a bright and innovative group of girls, Sandpoint claimed the school’s lone debate state championship in 1962, busing south to Boise and returning across the Long Bridge with new hardware in hand.
