SANDPOINT — From zenith to renovate, to chutney and macaroni, students practiced many words in preparation for the annual Lake Pend Oreille School District Spelling Bee. More than 55 students nervously tested their spelling Thursday evening.

Grades fourth through eighth competed in the district spelling bee, with the winners earning a trip to the North Idaho Regional Bee, March 19 at North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene. The bee was conducted in rounds, with the students who spelled their words correctly advancing until there was a winner.
