ROYAL CITY — Royal exploded for a 28-10 fourth quarter Saturday night on the Royal floor to defeat Wahluke, 62-51, in SCAC boys basketball.
Before the start of the period, Wahluke had steadily built a 41-34 lead.
Nearly all of Royal’s scoring was done by three Knights. Sophomore Owen Ellis led with 18 points. Sophomore Corbin Chirstensen added 16 points. Junior Kaden Jenks got 12, and Carson Gilbert had 11.
Jenks was he reboudning leader with nine, and Corbin Christensen picked off six.
“We came out very quickly and then Wahluke took over the tempo of the game and our kids got sucked into the fast-paced, reaching-and-grabbing style of game Wahluke plays,” coach Pete Christensen said.
The Knights settled into their style of play with five minutes. They were down by eight at that time, and then the magic happened.
“Our kids once again just kept fighting, and Wahluke started to make the mistakes,” coach Christensen said.
