A Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded Friday morning after a person told dispatch that they “can’t get a hold of the bird lady” after seeing a mother duck and her ducklings were stranded in the turning land on East Idaho Street in Kalispell. The deputy did not see any ducks on the road.
Someone called 911 to request information on county ordinances related to beekeeping after her neighbor’s hives of stinging insects allegedly began swarming onto her property. Her questions were referred to the county planning department.
Wednesday night, following a fatal bear attack in the area, an employee at a West Glacier business called dispatch from Blankenship Road to report what sounded like a bear in the area. The caller said the animal sounded “mad” and believed it was the same bear.
The following morning, a large, dark-colored bear was seen wandering near Belton Stage Road in West Glacier.
A woman told dispatch that access to her computer was being held hostage after it was infected by a virus. The hacker was allegedly demanding a Bitcoin payment as a ransom.
A rental boat reportedly sank on Abbott Lake near Bigfork. No one was aboard the vessel at the time.
A Coram resident found a dead dog on his doorstep Thursday morning.
An elderly man suffering from heat stroke during a four-day guided rafting trip on the Middle Fork Flathead River was taken to the hospital Thursday evening after a member of the camp sent out an emergency distress signal.
The manager of a trailer park had been giving alcohol to minors, according to a call to dispatch early Friday morning.
The occupants of a vehicle driving down Main Street in Kalispell were “probably smoking pot,” according to a person who told dispatch they were blaring an air horn out the window.
Shortly after noon on Thursday, an officer from the Whitefish Police Department responded to a caller concerned about a 65-year-old man in high-heels, nylons and a short bathrobe walking along the bike path near the city’s water treatment facility.
The responding officer advised the man of an appropriate place to change.
A man who had evidently had too much to drink was found lying in some bushes on East Second Street around 9:30 p.m.
Kalispell Fire Department responded to a small structure fire Thursday evening, believed to have been caused by kids playing with fireworks or a lighter, according to fire chief Dave Dedman.
The Kalispell, Whitefish and West Valley fire departments arrived at a structure fire at Fifth Avenue East, where some vegetation alongside the house had been set alight. Dedman said everyone at home was brought to safety and crews were able to quickly extinguish the small blaze. It caused minor damage to the home’s exterior.
“Somehow a juniper bush or tree was lit on fire, either with fireworks or with kids playing with a lighter,” Dedman said, adding that fireworks are still illegal in city limits on during the Independence Day weekend.
“We’re rolling into the Fourth of July, so we’ll see what happens,” he said. “We know they’re out there and we do our best to police it.”
