Legion baseball: Lakers A split with Red Sox
The Daily Inter Lake | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 6 months AGO
The Kalispell Lakers wound up splitting with the Bitterroot Red Sox in Class A American Legion baseball play Friday evening at Griffin Field.
Bitterroot rolled to a 14-3 victory in the second game while Kalispell prevailed in the first outing, 9-7.
Both were conference contests.
In the opener, Randy Stultz, 2 for 4, tripled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice to power the Laker attack.
Ryan Symmes, 2 for 4, also scored twice and doubled. Clayton Jaques, 1 for 2, had the Lakers other double.
Jaryon Venturini, 2 for 2, scored a run for the Lakers and Keaden Morisaki, 1 for 2, drove in a run and scored twice.
Bitterroot scored early, and often, in the nightcap. The Red Sox tallied nine runs in the first inning.
“Ran out of pitching in the second game,” Lakers coach Jesse McFarland said. “We didn’t have our top three pitchers available, but our kids still came out and competed hard.”
McFarland said two of those pitchers threw last week while another joined the Lakers AA team in Pullman, Washington, for a tournament.
The Red Sox outhit the Lakers 14-6 in the second game.
Jaques had two hits in that outing and drove in a run.
Kalispell (26-13 overall, 7-7 league) plays a single nine-inning conference game on Tuesday at the Glacier Twins. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
