Arrest made in drug death
Associated Press and Staff reports | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 8 years, 6 months AGO
A man arrested in Spokane is accused of forcing the grandson of a former Post Falls mayor to eat a fatal dose of methamphetamine.
Shaun Patrick Kelly, 43, was taken into custody Friday by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say last August, Kelly forced 22-year-old Evan Mychal Larkin at gunpoint to eat a lethal dose of meth to prove he wasn’t a police informant. Larkin began foaming at the mouth and died three days later.
Larkin is the grandson of Clay Larkin, who served as the Post Falls mayor for 13 years. Alison McArthur, Clay Larkin’s daughter and Evan’s aunt, told The Press the family will not comment on the situation.
Post Falls Police Chief Scot Haug said the incident occurred just outside Post Falls city limits, so the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office handled the investigation which Haug said is now closed.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s Lt. Stu Miller did not return a call from The Press.
Kelly is being held without bond and has agreed to be extradited to Kootenai County where he faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The Idaho State Judiary’s Repository lists Kelly as a Spokane resident with several criminal convictions in Kootenai County. He was convicted in 2007 of multiple counts of sex crimes involving a child and in 2005 of multiple counts of theft, burglary and grand theft. Both sentences included jail time.
