A summary of city council actions across the Flathead Valley on Monday night:
KALISPELL
• Adopted a new collective bargaining agreement with the local chapter of the International Association of Firefighters union, setting salaries through June 2019. The agreement is expected to cost the city $67,505 this fiscal year and about $52,250 during the 2018 and 2019 fiscal years.
• Approved a conditional use permit for four townhomes on the 1200 block of Sixth Street West. A neighboring landowner objected to the permit, contending that he has claims to part of the property. City Attorney Charlie Harball said the council had the authority to issue the permit, and that District Court would be proper venue to decide the ongoing property dispute.
• Approved a contract with Spokane-based Community Forestry Consultants to help draft the city’s Urban Forest Management Plan. The city will pay up to $13,000 for the work, and an $8,000 state grant will cover the rest.
• Voted to allow the sale and consumption of alcohol at the Hockaday Museum’s Arts in the Park fundraiser in Depot Park July 15-17.
• Approved the final plat for the Owl View Townhomes within Westview Estates, off West Reserve Drive and Stillwater Road. The subdivision consists of six townhouses along the 100 block of Taelor Road.
• Scheduled a work session at City Hall July 11 at 7 p.m., to discuss the future of Kalispell City Airport.
WHITEFISH
• Approved rezoning about 4.73 acres of land at 325 Haugen Heights Road to estate residential district.
• Voted to reaffirm a previous plan to demolish the Depot Park building once city offices move into the new City Hall building. However, the council also chose to accept for the next four months proposals from nonprofit groups interested in leasing the space.
• Voted to postpone a decision until July 18 on a request for a conditional use permit to develop a three-story, 81-room Marriott Towneplace Suites on U.S. 93 South.
• Voted to approve an application from GMJ LLC for a conditional-use permit to develop 12 condominium cabins on Nelson Lane.
• Voted to approve construction of a five-space parking lot at the James R. Bakke Nature Reserve on West Seventh Street.
