POST FALLS — Visitors to the Post Falls Festival will discover old favorites and new attractions in different places this year.
"We're giving it a fresh new look," said Traci Stevenson, recreation supervisor for the Post Falls Parks and Recreation Department. "We're moving stuff around. The whole layout of the festival will change."
New this year is the one-day homemade craft fair, which will take place in the Q'emiln Park Grand Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
"It's a brand-new addition for us," Stevenson said. "We decided the Grand Pavilion would be a perfect location to do a one-day event for our homemade crafters."
Big, colorful amusement attractions will be close to the park entrance, seating locations will be shuffled around, live music will play from one stage and different pathways will wind through the festival, which begins at 11 a.m. Friday and goes through early evening Sunday.
The Q'emiln Grand Pavilion will serve as the site of the McDonald's Big Wheel Race at 6:30 p.m. Friday, where 3- to 6-year-olds will race for Happy Meal coupons and the chance to win a Big Wheel.
Big Back-In Lawnmower Races will take place on Fifth Avenue at 6 p.m. and the Post Falls Lions Club Haunted House will be open at 6 p.m.
At dusk, Blue Dog RV will present Movie Night in the Park, a free event where families, friends and neighbors are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and watch "Open Season: Scared Silly" on a huge inflatable movie screen. Concessions will be available during the film.
Breakfast at the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce goes from 7-10 a.m. Saturday, followed by the annual Post Falls Festival Parade, which starts at 10 a.m. The parade route will be on Seltice Way between Fredrick and Idaho streets. A free shuttle will be available after the parade until 7 p.m. and will run to Q'emiln from Post Falls City Hall and the Red Lion Templin's Hotel every 20 minutes.
Also on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can check out the Car Show and Shine at Post Falls City Hall and the fire station on Idaho Street will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Festival vendor hours are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for outside vendors and until 5 p.m. for pavilion vendors Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Community worship service starts at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Grand Pavilion.
The Post Falls Festival has been a collaborative effort of the Post Falls Chamber and Parks and Recreation Department for more than 30 years. Stevenson said it now attracts up to 15,000 people throughout the weekend.
"I personally like all the crafts," she said. "There's something for everybody."
