On June 6, 2016, Samuel Russell Fulton passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Canonsburg, Pa., to Clyde and Gertrude Fulton on Sept. 5, 1929.

A short time after graduating from high school, he joined the Navy in 1949. A year later the Korean War broke out and he stayed in the Navy until the end of that war in 1953. Shortly after that he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering during which time he met and married Margery Ann Burig.

After he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and design they settled in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked for National Cash Register. While there, they had a daughter, Virginia Ann. Not long after that the family moved to Silver Lake Village, Ohio, and soon welcomed a son to their family, David Lee. Wanting a better life for their family, Sam and Marge decided to uproot everything and move to Missoula, Mont., in 1971. They lived there for a year then moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in 1972.

Sam first worked for ASC Industries, then soon found better work at the Bunker Hill Mine in Kellogg, Idaho, where he worked until that shut down in the mid-80s. Being a talented engineer and enjoying what he did for a living, Sam soon found work as a consultant on various projects throughout the Northwest.

Not one to be devoted strictly to work Sam became very involved with the local Boy Scouts, specifically Troop 201, where his son achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and Sam even had a stint as the Scoutmaster. Sam’s other passion was anything mechanical and his expertise and generosity with such things was known to all who knew him and even to some who didn’t. He was a husband, a father, a friend and his absence in this world will be felt by many for years to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Clyde; his brother, Donald; and his wife, Margery. He is survived and missed daily by his daughter, Virginia; son David; and grandsons, Corey, Logan and Abraham.

The memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Yates Funeral Home in care of the arrangements. Burial will be in Hills Church Cemetery in Canonsburg. You may visit Sam’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
