COEUR d'ALENE — It's been another big year for the women of Cancer and Community Charities.
Members of the 3Cs Appropriations Committee met Thursday to discuss where they will allocate the funds the various 3Cs groups generated during the past year.
The philanthropic organization will once again distribute a generous $100,000 to several nonprofits and charities in Kootenai County. In 2015, the women also donated $100,000.
"As members of the community, we feel really good about the fundraising efforts we've had in the past year," said committee chair Sally Cannon. "We feel very honored to be able to support worthwhile charities in Kootenai County."
Appropriations Committee members send letters to local charities and invite them to apply for funds. The women then review the applications, interview potential recipients and spend plenty of time deliberating over where the money will go.
"They let us know how much they want and exactly what they'll use the funds for," Cannon said. "Then the committee goes out and visits the charities and talks to them about what they want their money for. We get a real clear sense of the need."
Letters to recipients are already in the mail and the funds will be distributed at the annual Appreciation Brunch at The Coeur d'Alene Resort at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 19.
Last year's recipients included the Alzheimer's Association, Birthright, Children's Village, ElderHelp of North Idaho, Hayden Senior Center, Idaho Drug Free Youth, Newby-ginnings of North Idaho, Onsite for Seniors, the Rathdrum Food Bank, Tesh Inc., the Village at Orchard Ridge and more.
"The committee does work extremely hard," said 3Cs publicity chair Marcia Saunders. "They put so much effort into it, so much time."
