Arthur “Art” Langenohl passed away peacefully on June 30, 2016, at the Hospice House of North Idaho. He was born in Raritan Township, N.J., on July 13, 1932, to Pearl (Conway) Langenohl and Frederick Langenohl. He was the youngest of three boys.

Art described his childhood as being filled with many adventures. He spent many days fishing and boating on the river in Martins Landing. As he became older, he attended the operas in New York City with his parents.

Art honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an MP from 1952-1954. While in Asia, he had the rare opportunity and honor to meet and pray with the Dalai Lama. He was deeply inspired by the peacefulness of the man and maintained a keen interest thereafter in the Asian arts and religions.

After military service, Art attended vocational school, became a certified Plumber/Pipe fitter. He was employed for many years at Johnson & Johnson in New Jersey. After an unfortunate industrial accident he relocated to the warm weather of Naples, Fla., and eventually became employed as a landscaper. It was in Naples that he met our mother Marie, and they married in 1972. Art had never been a parent before, but literally overnight he unofficially “adopted” her five children. He became known to us as our “Papa.”

Art and Marie later moved to California and were happily married for almost 30 years. Marie sadly passed away in 2001 after a lengthy illness. Her passing was extremely difficult for him. Within a few years, he entered assisted living in California and later moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in April 2013.

Art will be sadly missed by his friends; his brother, Marty and family; as well as Marie’s five children: Linda, Richard, Ronald, Kathy and Jeanne and all of their families. Art and Marie also leave behind 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Our “Papa” Art was a very gentle, unassuming and kind man who grew in our hearts and will remain there forever.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice House of North Idaho, Life Skills Care Staff, Kootenai EMS and Hospital Staff, Pastor Jon and Christ The King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene, and On Site for Seniors for all their services provided to him and us over the past three years.

We especially would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff and residents of The Village of Orchard Ridge in Coeur d’Alene. You provided “Papa” Art with an environment of love and kindness in his final years and you made him smile! He would want you to keep playing the music!

Art will be interned with Marie at the Rosecrans VA National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.

English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls, is in care of arrangements.
