Jenny Park, 91, of Coeur d’Alene, entered into heaven peacefully and surrounded by family on July 4, 2016. Jenny was loved by many in the community, and was passionate about sharing the Love of God to others. She was born in San Francisco, Calif., on Aug. 10, 1924, to Epifania and Nicola Giacalone, who were immigrants from Sicily. The family moved to Monterey, Calif., where Jenny grew up with her four siblings, Vera, Peter, Sal and Tony.

Jenny attended Monterey schools, and graduated from Monterey High in 1943. While in her last semester in high school Jenny volunteered as the coat and hat-check attendant at the Monterey USO. That is where she met her husband Mulford (Tom) Park who was stationed in the Army at Fort Ord. One night Tom checked in his hat, and was immediately smitten by Jenny’s pretty face and beautiful smile. They were married on Aug. 22, 1943, and were married 68 years until Tom’s death in 2011. They had two sons, David of King City, Calif., and Bill of Coeur d’Alene.

Shortly after their wedding, Tom was sent to France for the war effort. Jenny moved to Tom’s hometown in New Jersey to live with Tom’s family and worked in banking in Philadelphia. She later moved back to Monterey and worked in banking in Salinas all the while waiting for Tom to return from the war. When Tom returned they made their home in Monterey. They enjoyed life on the Monterey Peninsula and one of their favorite activities was packing a picnic lunch and watching the crashing waves at the beach from their car. They loved to travel to Lake Tahoe, and made many trips to Hawaii.

Besides banking, Jenny worked in many other professions including working as secretary for Tom’s real estate and insurance business, as a hostess for the Tuck Box tea house in Carmel, secretary for the Monterey building department, and then retiring from working at Macy’s in Monterey where she was a personal assistant for high-end fashion. Jenny loved music, sang for church choirs for many years, and faithfully taught Sunday school. She loved to sew and enjoyed oil painting. One of her passions was decorating her home. The family jokingly called her craft room “little Michaels” because of its huge inventory.

After retiring Jenny and Tom moved to Post Falls and built their home at the Highlands Golf Course in 1995. They attended Coeur d’Alene Bible Church, and also were members of the Welcomers Club. Jenny made many friends at Legends Assisted Living and will be dearly missed by all who knew her there.

Jenny is survived by sons David (Karen) and Bill (Jean); grandchildren, Nick (Janet), Denise, Michael (Amanda), Colleen (Sam), Jody (Mike) and Tenille (T.J.); great-grandchildren Valentina, Autumn, Isaac, Chelsti, Makayla, Tristan and Logan. She is also survived by a sister, Vera (Lowell); a brother, Tony; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; and her brothers, Peter and Sal.

A memorial service and reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Legends Park Assisted Living (across from the Kroc Center). A reception will immediately follow there. The family wishes to thank Hospice of North Idaho and Legends Park Assisted Living for their excellent care and requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of North Idaho.

Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, is entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Jenny’s online memorial and sign her guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
