EUREKA — Sam Elliott and Drew Scherrer twirled a pair of complete games and the Kalispell Lakers A swept a pair of games 5-2 and 4-1 against the Kootenai Valley Rangers on Wednesday night.
Elliott struck out 10 in a three-hitter in Game 1, allowing single runs in the third and fourth innings to earn the victory.
The Lakers had only four hits in the opener but pushed three runs across in the fourth inning and added two more in the seventh.
Randy Stultz doubled to start Kalispell’s three-run fourth and scored the tying run on an Eric Seaman sacrifice fly. Three batters later, Clayton Jaques delivered a two-out, two-run single to push the last two runs across.
Stultz and Jaques each tallied two hits in the first game.
In the nightcap, Scherrer was tagged for just a single run and surrendered only two hits. He struck out nine in the victory against only one walk.
The Lakers fell behind 1-0 but turned things around in the fourth. Seaman started the inning with a walk, stole second and scored on a Nathan Vanderbeek single to tie the game. Vanderbeek scored the go-ahead run later in the inning on a Brady Peiffer base hit.
Kalispell pounded out 10 hits in the Game 2 win, with Randy Symmes, and Elliott each singling twice. Peiffer drove in two runs.
