Heidi Schmid of Kalispell will be competing in the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) this week in Gillette, Wyoming, at the Cam-Plex Convention Center.
This marks the 68th year the event has been held. More than 1,600 cowboys and cowgirls from 42 states, five Canadian provinces and Australia have qualified, according to the NHSFR Facebook page.
Schmid, 18, will be competing at nationals in pole bending for the second-straight year.
She was second at the state finals in that event last month. She was the state pole bending champion the year before as a junior.
Rodeo action started Sunday and ends Saturday. Schmid is scheduled to compete this evening and Thursday morning.
