LOCAL ROUNDUP: Four days of fun planned in C. Falls

The annual Heritage Days celebration in Columbia Falls starts today and runs through Sunday with activities and fun for all ages.
New activities include bubble soccer and heritage demonstrations by Stu Sorenson.
This year’s theme is “Coming Alive in 2016,” celebrating the rejuvenation of a town with a deep sense of community and enthusiasm for its future.
Here’s a look at what’s happening:
Today
• Pulled pork dinner served 4 to 7 p.m., American Legion
• Car show, 5 to 9 p.m., Marantette Park
Thursday
• Farmers market, 5 to 7:30 p.m. under the shade trees at Pinewood Park
• Community market, 5 to 8 p.m., O’Brien’s Liquor Store
• Pinewood Park Pool offers a free open swim for adults and kids up to 10 years old from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., and for adults and kids 11 and older from 8:45 to 10 p.m.
• Lions Club concert, 7 p.m. Marantette Park
Friday
• Wildcat Endowment Auction and Barbecue, 5:30 p.m. The Coop
• Open rodeo, 7 p.m. Blue Moon Arena
Saturday
• Firefighters breakfast, 7 a.m., Don Anderson Fire Hall
• Three-on-three basketball, 7:30 a.m.
• Boogie to the Bank 5K and 10K run, 8 a.m.

There will be a free shuttle running from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday from the Senior Center to Marantette Park.

Live owls, hawks to be shown at Whitefish center
Montana Wild Wings Recovery presents a program at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at the Whitefish Community Center featuring live owls and hawks from the center which rehabilitates 100 birds annually with permits from the state of Montana and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Guided hike for youths has focus on sketching
Children will learn to sketch objects found in nature during a guided hike from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, July 28, on the Whitefish Trail.
Local artists will teach techniques such as shadowing and perspective. All art materials are provided and this outing is geared toward children aged 8 to 12 years old. There is no age restriction, however, and adults and children are encouraged to attend. Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Meet at Lion Mountain Trailhead and take a half-mile hike to the Whitefish Trail Learning Pavilion.
