Busy summer ahead for the Royal City library

ROYAL CITY — Things have been busy at the Royal City Branch of the North Central Regional Library, according to librarian Shannon Stewart.
The Youth Summer Reading Program is in full swing. A whopping 236 children have signed up so far and have read nearly 1,000 hours. Circulation in June was up 14 percent from last year with 4,251 items checked out.
“It’s not too late to sign up for the program.” Stewart said.
Prizes are given awarded for time reading. There are weekly drawings, and everyone who reads 10 hours has his of her name entered into a drawing for bikes and other prizes to be awarded at the end of summer reading.
Deb McVay, the Story Time Lady, will be presenting her big extra special extravaganza in the grassy areas behind the library on Tuesday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m.
At the same time, Luke Ellington, from the North Central Regional Library, will have a program for tweens and teens using Mobile Makerspace, doing crazy things with photos.
“The computers for his program will be set up from 11:30 to 1,” Stewart said. “That guarantees fun for every age.”
