Elizabeth “Betty” N. McGarry was born on October 28, 1921, in Trochu, Alberta, Canada, to Frank and Mary D’Arcy.

The family moved to Butte when Betty was an infant, and she later graduated from Butte Girls Central High School. While in Butte, she met John McGarry, whom she married in 1941. Together they had six children, John Frances, Eileen, Connie, James, Daniel and Patrick. The family relocated to Whitefish in the early 1950s.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary; her husband, John; brothers Gerald and John; a sister, Catherine; a son, John Frances; and a grandson, David.

Betty is survived by her brother Charles and his wife, Marion, of Polson; her children, Eileen McGarry, James and his wife Lenore McGarry, and Daniel McGarry, of Whitefish, Connie Keltner and her husband Dan of Kalispell, and Patrick McGarry of Missoula. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-

grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was known to many, whether related or not, as “Grandma Betty,” and she will be remembered most for her spunky sense of humor and her “Fighting Irish” spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send your donation to: Cancer Support Community, 37 W. Washington St., Kalispell, MT 59901.

A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Whitefish. A luncheon will follow Mass at the church, and urn burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
