LETTER: Is this the best we can do?

Is this the best we can do, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump? There is no longer any illusion about the world we live in, as “reality TV” has come to presidential politics. Disappearing are candidates who are courteous and honest with a sense of dignity because, quite frankly, that’s not what our country wants.

Oh, it ought to be a great brawl. So let’s just cut out all pretenses of civility and decorum, name it “The Bully vs. The Bitch,” turn on the TV and let them fight it out. We can have entertainment and presidential politics on the same program.

Who knows? Maybe some good will come from it. After all, in the last two elections, the Republicans ran two innocuous gentlemen who were summarily drubbed by Obama and his Chicago thugs who really knew how to street fight. Trump, at the very least, is a fighter — brash, loud, crass and, at times, coarse and profane — not great attributes (except in a street fight!). But he won’t let political correctness or the liberal press control him or the election.

In contrast, Hillary brings all the worst traits to the campaign — manipulative, mean, petulant, self-centered, anti-Christian, anti-guns, egotistical and, in addition, corrupt and a proven liar. On top of that she is a confirmed communist and embraces the politics of fascism (i.e., she is a progressive). With all her baggage she would not normally be considered a viable candidate except for her female gender.

These are our only choices. So, I guess let’s just put them in the ring to “have at it.” I will support Trump in hopes he delivers on his grand promises. But do I like this “reality series”? NO! I think reality TV should stay on TV where it belongs. But to have it thrown in our faces inside a presidential campaign confirms a sinking feeling inside of me that we, as a country, are going backwards and, for that, I am sorry.
