Passenger arrested for meth possession

COEUR d'ALENE — A damaged and suspicious vehicle that caught a police officer's attention led to the felony arrest of a Coeur d'Alene woman Wednesday.

One of the passengers, Allison Cavilee, 25, who was wanted on a $5,000 failure to appear warrant for a malicious injury to property charge, was booked on the warrant and for possession of methamphetamine.

The driver, a 41-year-old Coeur d'Alene woman, was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. However, the charge wasn’t filed and she was released from jail. She told police she didn't know the car was stolen and she was told by a man to use it to move property from one storage unit to another.

A Post Falls Police officer was driving eastbound in the 5000 block of East Seltice Way at 1:30 p.m. when he observed a gray 2002 Kia Spectra with front-end damage, according to a police report.

When he entered the license plate number into the crime system, it came back as a stolen vehicle.

The officer followed the vehicle to Starbucks in Riverstone in Coeur d'Alene and waited for backup.

The officer and a Post Falls detective in plain clothes who responded drew their guns during the incident and ordered patrons of the business to move for their safety.

"Taking into consideration the number of occupants in the vehicle, as well as the busy surroundings, we elected to detain the occupants where they sat in the stolen vehicle until Coeur d'Alene Police arrived and was able to offer additional assistance," the detective wrote.

Cavilee allegedly provided police with a different name during questioning. She also allegedly told police she was unaware of any drugs that she was in possession of before meth was found in her pants pocket at the jail.

She told police the bag with meth did not belong to her and the other passenger put it in her pocket after the police arrived.

The felony probation and parole officer for the third occupant in the vehicle was contacted after a syringe was found in his possession. The man told police he used meth about an hour before the contact with police. The parole officer told police a urine sample would be taken to verify drugs were used.

The two passengers also told police they were unaware the vehicle was stolen.

The owner of the vehicle is Title Cash of Idaho, according to police.

During an inventory of the vehicle, which was "overloaded with miscellaneous property," according to police, a Post Falls Police K-9 found syringes and several baggies of meth inside a purse.
