ABOVE: Cody Newhart, a 5th grader from Sagle Elementary, uncorks a bomb in the softball throw. Farmin-Stidwell, Hope, Kootenai, Northside, Sagle, Southside and Washington Elementary Schools each hold their own qualifying, with the top marks earning the right to compete in the district meet, run adeptly by K.C. MacDonald and the Clark Fork students and teachers. Washington Elementary edged Sagle to win the overall team title. RIGHT: Olivia Yetter, a 3rd grader from Hope Elementary, takes part in the long jump. A couple things always stick out about the meet: One, the weather is always nearly perfect for this event; and two, the energy and enthusiasm of the kids is palpable, as they enjoy both the thrill of competition and being out of the classroom on a June morning. See the Bee next week for the results. —Photos by ERIC PLUMMER
