Two teens each face four counts of felony burglary, with more counts anticipated, after they allegedly were found with loot linked to a number of recent break-ins in the West Reserve Drive area.

Andrew Simpson Gilbert, 18, and Skylar Alexander Smith, 18, were charged in Flathead District Court last week.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said the burglary spree was fairly significant and a lot of property was recovered.

“We recovered mainly tools and shop-type stuff,” Curry said. “We’re still working on identifying where the stuff came from.”

According to court documents, the pair were arrested May 26 after deputies were notified of a suspicious vehicle on West Reserve Drive at 12:47 a.m. The vehicle had allegedly been linked to nearby burglaries at the same time of night. Smith and Gilbert were allegedly found inside the vehicle and told to go home.

At 3:30 a.m., Gilbert and Smith, this time riding bicycles, were stopped by deputies again.

The deputies gave the teens a ride home. Deputies asked to search the home and the teens consented.

Property was allegedly found from four homes or outbuildings that had been reported broken into during the previous two weeks, prosecutor Andrew Clegg wrote.

He included a note to Flathead District Judge Amy Eddy in charging documents that more burglary charges are possible as the stolen property is sorted.

Gilbert and Smith are set to be arraigned June 9.

Curry noted that people can help prevent burglaries by taking small precautions.

“We still find people who don’t feel they need to lock their vehicles or lock their houses, but those days are gone,” Curry said.
