• Approved an application from Stewart Cardon for a sign variance for the Galleries building at the corner of East Second Street and Baker Avenue. The variance will allow transfer of the square footage allowed for a free-standing sign to two wall signs.

• Approved a resolution declaring a 2000 Ford Econoline/Horton Ambulance as surplus property and authorizing its transfer to the Smith Valley Fire Department for $8,500.

• OK’d an ordinance allowing for an additional committee member to serve on the pedestrian and bicycle path advisory committee. The spot will be designated for a high school student.

• Approved the $53,000 purchase of street light poles and fixtures for the West Seventh Street reconstruction project.

• Approved a resolution of intent to consider annexing certain wholly surrounded land into the city. The land being considered is 25 properties on West Lakeshore Drive.

• Approved a request from Annika Gordon to operate a commercial pedicab carriage.

Columbia Falls

• Discussed changing the parking on several city streets soon. The problem is street parking either makes it difficult to remove snow in the winter or nearly impossible to get a fire truck down the street in the event of an emergency. Parking changes are being considered on Franlou Park Lane, Diane Road, Wildcat Drive, 14th Avenue West and 16th Avenue West.

A public hearing is scheduled for the council’s next meeting at 7 p.m. June 20. Residents can also contact the city directly at 130 6th St. West, Columbia Falls, MT 59912.

• Landowner William T. Giddeon is asking for a zone change on Columbia Falls Stage Road from SAG-10 agricultural to residential for a subdivision. The 18-acre parcel has about one acre in the city’s zoning and planning area. The city-county planning board will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. June 14 at City Hall. The parcel is already adjacent to other residential properties in the area.

• Heard from resident Barb Proctor, who complained about parking and noise from the Community Market in Columbia Falls. She said the music was so loud she had to close her windows to listen to her television and the noise was going longer into the night than it should be. She also said people were parking in front of the home of her neighbor who is a disabled veteran. Proctor said that if it was a commercial venture, people should park on commercial lots, not on residential streets.

“Obviously there’s some issues,” Mayor Don Barnhart said. “We can’t let it get out of hand.”

KALISPELL

• Approved a conditional use permit for four townhouses at 117 Northwest Lane.

• Approved a final plat for the Spring Prairie Development Four retail and commercial subdivision at the southwest corner of Old Reserve Drive and U.S. 93.
