COEUR d'ALENE — Yes, art enthusiasts, the show will go on.

The third annual Emerge Collective Pop-Up Show will indeed be popping up beginning at 5 p.m. Friday. Despite code concerns in the original planned location — the former Wiggett Building on Fourth Street and Lakeside Avenue — and an unexpected venue change, Emerge, a nonprofit art agency, is going forward with the show at its permanent space at 208 N. Fourth St.

"Having to move the show last-minute was really challenging, but now that we've accomplished plan B, we're really excited for people to show up," Emerge executive director Jeni Hegsted said Wednesday, adding she and the Emerge team are looking forward to hosting a party and utilizing their indoor and outdoor space.

A "pop-up" party or show is one that seems to come from nowhere and exists for one day. It occurs suddenly in a random location and disappears just as quickly.

Hegsted said now that the show is not off site and the artwork will remain in the building, it doesn't quite fit the definition of a "pop-up," but it has already been tagged as such so they are just going to roll with it.

She said the first year, about 1,500 people came through and last year the event welcomed about 2,200. She expects at least that many people this year as well.

"We think it's going to be a really fun night, not to mention something unique to Coeur d'Alene," she said.

As for the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department prompting the change of plans after a fire inspection, Hegsted said it has been great.

"Those guys are just doing their jobs," she said. "They've been nothing but supportive."

The free and all-ages Emerge Collective Pop-Up Show will feature more than 90 pieces of purchasable artwork from more than 40 artists as well as 12 different performances by local entertainers. A beer garden will be available for those 21 and older. The show runs until midnight.
