LCHS students give thanks, advice
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 8 years, 7 months AGO
Andrea Partington has many things to offer to her students. From targeted sarcasm to constructive and VERY helpful critiques. As a student that she truly adores I enjoy many of these qualities. She is always willing to point you in the right direction and advise you when making large decisions about what would be in your best academic interest. She always makes a genuine effort to catch her students up from absences and try’s her very hardest to accommodate students when they are pulled out of class from extracurricular activities. She has a hard eye for the rules and I really love that! If she believes students have dropped below their required academic achievement level for their activities she will be the first person to be in the office talking with administration about this problem. Often she catches these issues even before the coaches or activity participants notice so by the time the students are aware of the problem administration has already taken action to help the student correct this error. This is so great! It makes it literally impossible for students to fall behind! Andrea Partington has become an incredible teacher who truly gives her students the opportunity to fully understand the curriculum and really learn a lot! So even though many believe that retirement is near for Mrs. P., I think she should teach forever! She has been a wonderful teacher and I have adored having her class in the same way that she has adored teaching me.

I want to recognize one of my absolute favorite teachers and role model Ms. Cook. I have had the honor of having her as my student council adviser for the past two years. I’ve loved being able to work by her side and know that no matter what she will always have my back. I am very sad that she is leaving this next year…my senior year, but I am very excited for her to go and see the world. If anyone deserves to see the world it would be her. She is an amazing person and I know she will be greatly missed while she is off on leave.

Thank you Mrs. Partington for being such a wonderful teacher and constant supporter this year. Throughout the entire year you have offered me help, constructive criticism, and valuable life lessons that will continue to help me grow into my senior year and beyond. I appreciate the time and dedication you give to teaching and our school in order to make it a better place. Thank you!

I would like to say thank you to Ms. Cook, she is a wonderful, fun teacher, and our student council would never survive without her. I am going to miss her so much next year while she’s traveling, but I’m so happy she will be back for my senior year! Ms. Cook makes the classroom a fun place to be, that’s why student council is my favorite class. She brings so much fun and energy into planning events like homecoming and fight for the fish. She is always so positive and happy, which makes us happy and ready to learn. Ms. Cook deserves endless appreciation because she is such a great person all around. Ms. Cook isn’t just my teacher, she’s also my friend!!!

My school year was so much fun, I learned so much in the classes and from the many experiences I had during my freshman year. I learned that it is an awesome way to meet people by joining clubs and sports. I transferred from a different district and I knew no one at this new school. So what I did is joined student council. Student council was a great way to meet people. Student council was so much fun because it made me be apart of the school. It helped me gain school spirit. I also played football and golf. Playing sports was fun and it was also another great way to meet kids. I suggest to any new kids coming in to join clubs. They are so much fun and they are a fun way to meet people.

I want to say thanks to the whole OSP program at LCHS for providing a fun and interesting take on how to learn a subject. The three teachers who run the program are Eric Edmond (U.S. History), Lynn Peters (English 11), and Jamie Esler (AP Environmental Science). This class will be one of the best ones you can ever take, you get to leave school all the time to go on field trips to all different places in town. Plus a really cool trip to Yellowstone at the end of the year and you spend four days with all your friends just hiking around the park and seeing all the cool and diverse things in the national park.

I would like to thank all of my teachers and staff at Lake City High School for all of their hard work and dedication toward the students. All of their work gets no recognition, but I would like to send my appreciation and thanks toward my teachers. This year at Lake City I have been more involved, and I would like to thank Mallory Cook, my student council teacher for encouraging students to join new activities and always bringing new ideas to help make our school better. Student Council has created opportunities for me to help out more in the community, meet new students of all ages in our school, and to be more involved in the school. I would also like to recognize my math teacher, Karen Grossman, because she makes sure each student understands the lessons and you can tell she loves her job, which makes the class more enjoyable for the students as well. This school year was great and I am excited for the future!! Thanks again to the Lake City teachers and staff members for a fun year!

One thing I have for advice is that your friends change; people don’t stay the same. High school changes people. You try to fit in more than anything; you try to find your place in the school. And high school relationships aren’t a big thing until you’re about a junior or senior. So just sit back and soak it in — high school is very fun. Don’t waste it.

Before going into high school I thought it would in some ways be easier and worse but I wish I could have mentally prepared for the stress of some of it! High school is fun and good for the most part, but I wish I could or would have known how much I was really going to have to pay attention and work at things to be doing great. There’s already things I regret about high school. Things I wish I would have done or opportunities I missed out on for a variety of reasons and I wish I could go back and fix it because I am not going to be in high school forever and to live it with no regret would be a great feeling to have. As for advice to incoming freshmen, it wouldn’t exactly be that you need to stress about every single thing, but to make sure you do focus and pay attention in class when you’re supposed to. It makes the class a lot easier and keeps you caught up and learning! Make sure you have fun throughout high school because before you know it, you are going to be graduating and moving out and so many other things, and you don’t want to regret not living your high school years to the fullest! Don’t get caught up with the wrong people or focus on the wrong things. Be the best you and don’t let other people tell you that you can’t achieve something!

I would like to recognize and thank my Algebra 2 teacher, Mr. Schmidt for being so helpful and understanding. He has spent hours of his own time after school helping students who were struggling. He also makes sure that all of his students are on the same page and understand the lesson completely. He cares about all students and makes sure that everyone is OK if they seem down. Thank you for everything you do, Mr. Schmidt.

I would like to give some advice to future high school students regarding success in school. Some may say that studying late nights, chugging coffee like it’s your lifeline, and making sure every single assignment you turn in is perfect is the path to success. But I disagree. I think that students should make sure their mental health is in check before they focus on school. Many of my friends have anxiety or depression, simply because of the pressure from our schools telling us to get straight A’s and to be the perfect student in everything. This is simply not a realistic expectation. Students will fail. They will get answers incorrect. They will not be everyone’s favorite. What the students need to know is that this is OK, that being bad at something is simply a part of life. I wish I had known this before the beginning of my high school journey.

My advice to freshman would be to open up and make more friends. Try to find something new to do like a new club or sport. Find a job that you enjoy and apply for so many scholarships. Start saving now and plan for college now. Never lose your friends from middle school, they will be the people you will fall on for anything. Actually talk to your teachers and actually get to know them. It will make the class a lot more enjoyable and you will gain another friend. Never ditch out too much, it will kill you in the end if you do. Try to enjoy it because it goes by really fast.

I wish I would have noticed that not all things are going to come easy. Some subjects in high school come very easily, and others are very hard. Also, B’s aren’t such a bad grade to get sometimes, as long as you try your hardest.

I would like to thank Mr. Bollinger, a math teacher at Lake City High School, for being a great teacher. For the entire second semester, he has been a great inspiration, and a great guy to talk to. He has also helped a lot with new math problems, and helping us with classwork. He makes math so much easier to learn, and to do the work in general. Not just that, Mr. Bollinger is a fun guy to be with. He is not a math teacher who acts like a drill sergeant. He is nice, understandable, and works with us kids. Mr. Bollinger is an amazing math teacher, and a great teacher who teaches at this school.

Mr. Worthen, a third-grade teacher at John Brown Elementary, in the Lakeland School District. He was one of the first teachers who helped me realize what potential I had, and that hard work can get you anywhere. Mr. Worthen has had the biggest impact on my schooling. He is such an amazing teacher, and person! Mr. Worthen has had many open heart surgeries, along with being very sick. He still comes back to work and loves his students. He also tests students in driving. Even with all the free time he does not have, he still teaches students. He loves his community and students. Mr. Worthen is so amazing and I cannot thank him enough for the inspiration he is.

I would like to recognize a great, yet simple math teacher here at Lake City High School. His name is Mr. Ron Jacobson and ever since the first day I entered his class this year, he has put others before himself. Whether it’s helping raising funds for the bowling club, or answering a simple math question that no one understood. Even on Mr. Jacobson’s birthday he made breakfast for his class because he cares about others. This type of personality is hard to come by, but on top of all this, he is one of the best math teachers I’ve ever had. Mr. Jacobson has the ability to make a math class fun, while still being able to teach the daily lesson. As I move on to my next year I’m going to miss a truly great guy. For all these reasons I wanted to say thank you to Mr. Ron Jacobson for all his hard work, dedication and ability to show what a T-wolf really is.

What I wish I had been prepared for was the ongoing action at Lake City and knowing what groups to join and what sports to join, but aside from that getting yourself involved in the activities and going to games and doing the best thing for your school like joining debate. You see just through this program I have made countless friends and have enjoyed the time I had doing something that I love so whether you are joining our chess club or the football team it is all worth it in the end to be able to bond with people. Another thing I encourage is joining student council. You see, through student council I have done countless things in my community like cleaning trash or helping out the little guy get his voice heard. You see, in doing this fun program you have the ability to inspire the future of the student body and have a say in what goes on instead of watching everything change in the school. So I hope you consider joining something so you can make friends and get involved.

High school has been a new, fun and great experience, but there were a few things I would have liked to know before I embarked on this journey.
One, the lunch room was a scary place on the first day. Between trying to find out what lunch we were in and finding people to sit with was stressful. So knowing a little bit more about the lunches would have been helpful. Two, signing up for classes was hard. So the people who come in to talk to the eighth-graders at the end of the year should give some suggestions on classes to take.
