The public will get the chance to see wood boats from the 1930s and newer during the third annual Hayden Lake Classic Boat Show Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Hayden Lake Marina docks.

An informal gathering and public display organized by Hayden Lake wood boat owners, the show will feature a variety of vessels from rare antiques to current classics. Vessels range in sizes and makes, featuring a locally made StanCraft, as well as several other wood models that are kept on Hayden Lake.

"The show has a twofold purpose," said event organizer Don Vogt. "One is to encourage Hayden classic boat owners to get out in their boats and have fun sharing their experiences with fellow owners and the public. The second is to give the public the opportunity to see the boats and visit with the owners if they like, which helps promote the hobby."

He said this year all of the boats are wood, but they would also welcome any classic Hayden fiberglass boats that are at least 25 years old.

In collaboration with the boat show, Hayden Lake Yacht Club and the Northwest chapter of DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) have partnered to present a nautical-themed Happy Hour from 3-5 p.m. at The Boathouse Restaurant. The event will feature vintage-style cocktail specials, a raffle and silent auction of custom-made designer picnic baskets in conjunction with DIFFA's national "Picnic by Design" theme.

During the event, DIFFA will award a $5,000 grant to the North Idaho AIDS Coalition, a local beneficiary of DIFFA. Information: www.diffanorthwest.org/events.

The boat show and Happy Hour event are free and open to the public; donations welcome.
